Privacy Policy
This policy explains what the Australia Citizen Test mobile application (“the app”) collects, why, and what choices you have. It applies to the Android and iOS versions of the app published under the package name com.shineshiao.citizentestau.
The short version
- There are no accounts. You never give the app your name, email address, or any other contact detail.
- Your test results and saved questions stay on your device. They are not uploaded to us, and we cannot see them.
- The app shows ads and uses analytics and crash reporting. These use industry-standard identifiers, described below.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Information you give us
None. The app has no sign-up, no sign-in, no profile, and no contact form. We do not ask you for personal information and we have no way to receive it through the app.
Information stored on your device
The app saves the following locally, on your phone or tablet only:
- Your practice-test attempts and scores, so the Records tab can show your history.
- Questions you saved to Review Knowledge.
- App preferences and settings.
This data never leaves your device. We have no server that receives it and no ability to read it. Deleting the app deletes all of it permanently — because it is stored only on your device, we cannot recover or restore it for you.
Information collected automatically
The app uses Google services that collect limited technical and usage data:
| Service | What it collects | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Google AdMob | Your device's advertising identifier, approximate (non-precise) location inferred from IP address, device and app information, and ad interaction data | To select, deliver, and measure the ads that keep the app free |
| Firebase Analytics | A randomly generated app instance ID, device model, operating system version, country, and in-app events such as starting or finishing a practice test | To understand which features are used, so the app can be improved |
| Firebase Crashlytics | Crash reports: stack traces, device state, operating system version, and a randomly generated installation ID | To diagnose and fix crashes |
| Firebase Remote Config | A device installation ID and basic device attributes, sent when fetching settings | To adjust app settings without shipping an update |
| Firebase App Check | A device integrity attestation token from Google Play Integrity (Android) or Apple App Attest (iOS) | To confirm requests come from a genuine, unmodified copy of the app |
None of this data identifies you by name. We see it only in aggregate, through Google's dashboards.
Advertising
The app is free and is funded by advertising. It displays banner ads, occasional full-screen ads between activities, and an ad when the app is opened. Ads are supplied by Google AdMob.
AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier to show ads relevant to your interests and to limit how often you see the same ad. Google's handling of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy; see also How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Your choices:
- Android: Settings → Google → Ads, where you can delete or reset your advertising ID and opt out of ad personalisation.
- iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. The app asks for your permission before tracking; if you decline, ads are still shown but are not personalised.
Opting out does not remove ads from the app — it makes them less relevant to you.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing. Data is processed only by the service providers listed above (Google LLC and its affiliates), acting on our behalf. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights or the safety of users.
International transfers
The Google services above process data on servers that may be located outside your country, including in the United States. Google maintains its own safeguards for these transfers, described in its privacy policy.
Retention
Data stored on your device stays until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. Analytics and crash data are retained by Google under its standard retention periods, generally no longer than 14 months for analytics event data.
Children
The app is intended for adults preparing for the Australian citizenship test. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will address it.
Security
Data kept on your device is stored using the operating system's own protected storage. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we rely on Google's encrypted connections for all data the app sends.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or object to the processing of your personal information — including under the Australian Privacy Act 1988, the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation, and the California Consumer Privacy Act.
Because the app holds no account and no personal profile, most of this data is under your direct control:
- To delete everything the app has stored about you, use the in-app clear options or uninstall the app.
- To reset the identifier used for ads, use the device settings listed under Advertising above.
- For any other request, contact us using the details below.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. The effective date at the top will be revised, and material changes will be noted in the app's store listing. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
