Privacy Policy
This policy explains what the Lunar Calendar mobile application (“the app”) collects, why, and what choices you have. It applies to the Android version of the app published under the package name com.shineshiao.lunarcalendar.
The short version
- There are no accounts. You never give the app your name, email address, or any other contact detail.
- Your special days, their titles and notes stay on your device. They are not uploaded to us, and we cannot see them.
- The app shows ads and uses analytics and crash reporting. These use industry-standard identifiers, described below, and never include your special days.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Information you give us
None. The app has no sign-up, no sign-in, no profile, and no contact form. We do not ask you for personal information and we have no way to receive it through the app.
Information stored on your device
The app saves the following locally, on your phone or tablet only:
- The special days you save: the lunar day and month, and the title and note you give each one, if any (for example the name of a relative whose memorial day it is).
- The reminders scheduled for those days, kept by Android’s alarm system on your device.
- The app language and the calendar region you choose, if you pick them in Settings. If you do not choose a region, the app uses your device’s country setting to pick one; that setting is read on the device and not sent anywhere by the app.
- The words the home-screen widget shows (the date, the lunar date and the day’s quote), kept in the app’s private storage so the widget can display them on its own.
This data never leaves your device through anything we operate. We have no server that receives it and no ability to read it. Deleting the app deletes all of it permanently, and because it is stored only on your device we cannot recover or restore it for you.
Device backups. If you have Android’s own backup turned on, Android may include the app’s data in your device backup to your Google account, so your special days can come back on a new phone. That is handled by Google under your device settings and your Google account; we do not receive it. You can turn it off in your device’s backup settings.
Reminders appear as notifications two days before each special day and on the day, and show the day’s title. Like any notification, they may be visible on your lock screen depending on your device settings.
The home-screen widget shows today’s date, lunar date and quote. It does not show your special days.
Permissions
- Notifications (Android 13 and later): the app asks for this only after you save a special day, and only so it can remind you of it. If you decline, the app works fully; you just don’t get reminders. You can change this at any time in Android’s app settings.
- Run at startup: lets the app put your reminders back after the phone restarts. Android grants it without asking.
The app does not request access to your camera, microphone, location, contacts, calendar, photos or files. Like all apps that show ads and send crash reports, it uses internet access, which Android grants without asking.
Information collected automatically
The app uses Google services that collect limited technical and usage data. None of it includes your special days, their titles or notes:
| Service | What it collects | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Google AdMob | Your device's advertising identifier, approximate (non-precise) location inferred from IP address, device and app information, and ad interaction data | To select, deliver, and measure the ads that keep the app free |
| Firebase Analytics | A randomly generated app instance ID, device model, operating system version, country, and basic usage events such as app opens | To understand how the app is used, so it can be improved |
| Firebase Crashlytics | Crash reports: stack traces, device state, operating system version, and a randomly generated installation ID | To diagnose and fix crashes |
| Firebase Remote Config | A device installation ID and basic device attributes, sent when fetching settings | To adjust app settings (such as ad settings) without shipping an update |
None of this data identifies you by name. We see it only in aggregate, through Google's dashboards.
Ratings. After you save a special day, the app may ask Google Play to show its standard in-app rating prompt, once. The prompt and any rating you give are handled by Google Play; we do not see who rated.
Advertising
The app is free and is funded by advertising. It displays a banner ad and occasional full-screen ads after a finished task, never in the middle of something you are doing. Ads are supplied by Google AdMob.
AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier to show ads relevant to your interests and to limit how often you see the same ad. Google's handling of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy; see also How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Your choices: On Android, go to Settings → Google → Ads, where you can delete or reset your advertising ID and opt out of ad personalisation. Opting out does not remove ads from the app — it makes them less relevant to you.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing. Data is processed only by the service providers listed above (Google LLC and its affiliates), acting on our behalf. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights or the safety of users.
International transfers
The Google services above process data on servers that may be located outside your country, including in the United States. Google maintains its own safeguards for these transfers, described in its privacy policy.
Retention
Data stored on your device stays until you change it in the app or uninstall the app. Analytics and crash data are retained by Google under its standard retention periods, generally no longer than 14 months for analytics event data.
Children
The app is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will address it.
Security
Data kept on your device is stored in the app’s private storage, protected by the operating system. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we rely on Google's encrypted connections for all data the app sends.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or object to the processing of your personal information — including under the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation, the California Consumer Privacy Act, Brazil’s LGPD, Turkey’s KVKK, Indonesia’s PDP Law and India’s DPDP Act.
Because the app holds no account and no personal profile, most of this data is under your direct control:
- To delete your special days and other data the app has stored, uninstall the app (or clear its storage in Android’s app settings).
- To reset the identifier used for ads, use the device settings listed under Advertising above.
- For any other request, contact us using the details below.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes (for example, if new features change what is collected). The effective date at the top will be revised, and material changes will be noted in the app's store listing. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
